Welcome to Genesee Jr/Sr High School

As the principal of Genesee Secondary School, I would like to personally welcome you to our website and introduce you to many of the opportunities, services and programs that are available to our students and community. Our staff is highly educated evident by the fact that over half of the teaching staff holds advanced degrees in their areas of interest. Furthermore, all classes are taught by “highly qualified” teachers as defined by the No Child Left Behind legislation. The teaching staff spends a considerable amount of time analyzing the Grade Level Content Standards released by the State of Michigan to ensure that our curriculum is updated on a continual basis.

Students are encouraged to get involved in school functions! Throughout the school year students may participate in a plethora of activities, which include Homecoming float building, parade participation and a powder puff football game. In the winter individual classes compete during Snowcoming Week to earn the coveted “Class of the Year” Award. There are school dances throughout the school year so that students have a safe place to have fun. Eighth and ninth grade students have an opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. while tenth and eleventh grade students select another educational destination. Students strengthen their leadership skills, explore their interests and volunteer their time and energy while participating in the following clubs: Students Against Destructive Decisions, student council, National Honor Society, athletic leadership, bowling, cheerleading, theatre and dance. Genesee provides even more opportunities on the athletic surfaces. Students are actively involved in basketball, volleyball, football, cross-country, baseball, softball and track.

Genesee Secondary School provides advanced learning opportunities for students in English, calculus, science and history while students have access to over twenty courses through our GenNet Distance Learning Classroom. Furthermore, students have access to dual-enrollment opportunities at Baker College, Mott Community College and the University of Michigan-Flint. Students often take advantage of the courses offered at the Genesee Area Skill Center as Genesee provides free transportation.

The most exhilarating event of the year is graduation. As I listened to our three valedictorians deliver their commencement addresses, I realized that our staff, student body and community places academics at the top of their priority lists. We are very proud of our students, and the opportunities for them are endless. As we look to the future, we can assure you that Genesee Secondary School is totally vested in ensuring a quality education for our young people. We will continue to work together toward improvements, while continuing our commitment to make Genesee Secondary School a great place for our students to thrive and prosper.
