The girls 4x200 relay team of Chloe Furman, Anijah Johnston, Sophia Thomas, and Selena Hess-Lopez earned 4th place and brought home regional medals. The girls 4x100 relay team featuring Anijah Johnston, Riley Lucas, Selena Hess-Lopez, and Chloe Furman placed 3rd overall.
Anijah Johnston also had an outstanding individual performance, placing 3rd in the 200M Dash.
In the field events, Reginae Randle placed 2nd in Shot Put, qualifying for the MHSAA Division IV State Championships. Fadi Bannoura also earned a regional medal with a 4th place finish in Discus.
On the boys side, the 4x200 relay team of Joey Abbe, Logan Ball, Levi Tuttle, and Devin Rigterink earned a 3rd place finish, while the boys 4x100 relay team of Joey Abbe, Logan Ball, Miguel Avila, and Devin Rigterink also placed 3rd overall.
Delonte Floyd-Blackmon captured a Regional Championship in the 800M Run, earning 1st place and qualifying for the MHSAA State Championships.
Kaleb Wagner had a tremendous day in the throwing events, placing 2nd in both Shot Put and Discus to qualify for the MHSAA State Championships in both events.
Congratulations to all of our athletes and coaches on an outstanding regional performance Friday night.

The ceremony will take place following the first game of the doubleheader and will be a day centered around memories, community, and celebration of the impact Chris had on so many. We’ll have hot dogs, popcorn, a DJ on hand, and a great atmosphere as we come together to celebrate a legacy that will forever be part of Genesee.
We hope to see many familiar faces out at the ballfield for this meaningful occasion.

M-STEP and AP testing will take place at Genesee Jr/Sr High School this week, beginning Tuesday, May 5.
Students in grades 6th, 7th, 8th, and 11th will participate in M-STEP assessments in ELA, math, science, and social studies, while AP students will complete their scheduled exams, including AP Government and AP Literature.
Testing will continue through Thursday, May 7th, with make-up testing scheduled for Monday, May 11th.
We encourage all students to arrive on time and do their best as they showcase their learning!

Genesee Jr/Sr High School is proud to recognize this year’s Genesee Area Conference (GAC) Scholar-Athlete Award recipients. This prestigious honor celebrates students who exemplify excellence both in the classroom and in athletics, meeting rigorous standards that include a minimum 3.5 GPA and success across multiple varsity sports .
This year’s recipients represent the very best of Genesee—demonstrating leadership, commitment, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Kiera Little
Kiera has built one of the most decorated and well-rounded careers in recent school history. A multi-sport athlete, she has competed in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track, while also contributing to cheer and flag football. Kiera is a multiple-time all-conference selection and has been deeply involved in National Honor Society and Student Council. As the Class Salutatorian, she has paired elite academic performance with athletic success. Kiera will attend the University of Michigan to pursue a career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Riley Lucas
Riley has been a cornerstone of student leadership at Genesee, serving as Senior Class President while participating in softball, track, and cheer. She is also an active member of National Honor Society and Student Council. Riley’s leadership, consistency, and involvement across multiple activities have made a lasting impact on the school community. She will attend Saginaw Valley State University to study criminal justice, with the goal of becoming a criminal investigator.
Selena Hess-Lopez
Selena has been actively involved across a wide range of activities, including cheer, softball, track, and flag football. She has also served in multiple leadership roles within Student Council, including treasurer and vice president. Selena’s commitment to both academics and extracurricular involvement reflects her strong work ethic and drive. She plans to study political science with a minor in journalism at the University of Michigan.
Devon Mullins
Devon has been a dedicated participant in track and cheer while also serving as Class Treasurer and an active member of Student Council. Her leadership and commitment to school involvement have been evident throughout her high school career. Devon will attend Mott Community College to pursue a degree in cosmetology, with plans to open her own business in the future.
Joey Abbe (Not Pictured)
Joey has excelled both academically and athletically, earning all-conference honors in football, baseball, and bowling. As the Class Valedictorian, he has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement while competing at a high level in multiple sports. Joey will attend Michigan State University, where he plans to major in sports and commercial turf management.
These students represent the standard of excellence we strive for at Genesee Jr/Sr High School. Their achievements reflect not only individual dedication, but also the strength of our school community, staff support, and athletic programs.

Chris Cuneaz, a 1997 graduate of Genesee, tragically passed away in 1998 due to complications from a car accident. In her memory, the Cuneaz family has created a lasting legacy of support for Genesee student-athletes.
Since 2000, Harry Cuneaz has awarded the Chris Amanda Cuneaz Scholarship annually to a Genesee student-athlete. For more than 25 years, the Cuneaz family has helped countless students pursue their educational goals and athletic dreams.
In recognition of their generosity, dedication, and unwavering commitment to Genesee, we are proud to name the softball field in their honor.
