Dear Genesee Families,
I am excited to share some outstanding news for our students, staff, and community.
Genesee School District has been awarded $12,670,795 through Michigan's highly competitive Section 12e School Infrastructure Grant, the fifth-largest grant award in Michigan. This represents one of the largest investments in our district's history.
Section 12e is a one-time State of Michigan grant program created to help school districts address major infrastructure needs that cannot reasonably be funded through local resources. Every Michigan public school district participated in a comprehensive statewide facilities assessment conducted by Plante Moran and commissioned by the School Finance Research Foundation. That assessment identified more than $21 million in infrastructure needs within Genesee School District, a significant amount for a district of our size.
Using that data, our district submitted a competitive application documenting our facility needs, limited local funding capacity, and strategic plan for improvement. More than 85 districts applied, but only 31 districts received funding, making this a significant accomplishment for our district. Because funding was limited, the State prioritized projects that addressed critical infrastructure, particularly HVAC and roofing, to ensure the greatest impact on school facilities statewide.
What This Means for Genesee:
Our approved infrastructure plan focuses on the district's highest-priority needs, including:
● Districtwide classroom air conditioning through modernized HVAC systems
● Fire protection system improvements
● Plumbing improvements
● Roofing improvements
These projects will create healthier, safer, and more comfortable learning environments for students and staff while strengthening our facilities for years to come. Most importantly, these improvements are being funded through this one-time state investment, with no additional cost to local taxpayers.
What's Next?
Section 12e provides a two-year implementation window to complete approved projects. Over the coming months, the district will partner with engineering and construction management professionals to finalize project plans, develop timelines, and oversee implementation. We will continue providing updates as projects move from planning to construction. This is truly a historic opportunity for Genesee School District, and we look forward to sharing our progress with you.
Sincerely,
Brett Young

We are officially just ONE WEEK AWAY from welcoming our Haas families back into the building! We can't wait to see everyone at Open House on Thursday, August 20, from 5:30–7:00 PM!
📌 Please note: The Haas Elementary Office will close at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 20, as our staff prepares for the evening. The building and office will reopen for families when Open House begins at 5:30 PM.

👣 Practice the morning routine together! We encourage parents/guardians to walk through the morning routine with their child—arrival → cafeteria → classroom—so students know their route and feel ready to do it independently on the first day of school.
🚌 Transportation Table: Stop by for information or questions about transportation for the upcoming school year.
🍎 Food Service Table: Get information about breakfast, lunch, and food service for the year.
🎒 FREE Backpack Giveaway: Students will have the opportunity to receive a free backpack to help them get ready for the new school year!
👕 FREE Genesee T-Shirt: Every student will receive a new Genesee T-shirt!

🐾 Haas PTO: Be sure to stop by and meet our amazing PTO! Learn more about what they do for our students and staff and how you can get involved. We would love to have more families join us!
📅 And don't forget—our first day of school is Monday, August 24! We encourage families to use their child's regular arrival and dismissal routine beginning on the very first day. If your child will normally ride the bus, please have them ride the bus to and from school that day. If they will normally be dropped off and picked up, please use that routine. Consistency from Day One helps our students learn their routines and build confidence!
Students will walk to their classrooms independently on the first day, but don't worry—we will have Haas staff throughout the hallways ready to welcome them, help them find their way, and make sure every student gets safely to the right classroom. 💚
We have so much to look forward to, and Open House is the beginning of an exciting new year at Haas!

Hello all!
It is that time of year for Fall Sports! Come on out and meet the coaches, fellow parents, and the administration! We will be meeting August 25th at 6:30 pm in the High School gymnasium, and from there we will be going to different breakout areas where coaches will have some more one-on-one time with the team and parents. This is a great time for the coaches to get to know the team parents more and for the parents to ask some questions. We will also have game schedules printed for all seasons, and Stacey will be there selling game passes for the Fall Season!
Athletic Game Passes Breakdown for the 2026 School Year:
Student Passes - 10 dollars for the season and 20 for the entire school year.
Adult Passes (single) - 25 dollars for the season and 50 for the entire year.
Family Passes (immediate family only) - 50 dollars for the season and 100 for the entire year.
** These do not count for the District Games; those are separate costs through Go Fan as per MHSAA, and they cannot be used at specific fundraisers such as Powder-Puff or Powder-Buff.
Looking forward to a fun and informative night with the Genesee Athletic Family! Go Wolves!

Have a great day and enjoy this beautiful weather!
